| Q |
Do I need private medical insurance to go to an independent
hospital? |
| A |
No, an increasing number of patients are “self-payers”.
We also offer fixed price packages which are very popular. |
| |
|
| Q |
What do fixed price packages cover? |
| A |
The cost quoted normally covers accommodation charges,
medical and nursing care, theatre charges, drugs and dressings and
consultant and anaesthetist fees. However, at Sancta Maria Hospital
consultant and anaesthetist fees are quoted separately. |

|
| Q |
What is not covered? |
| A |
Pre and post-operative consultations are not normally
included; also extras during your stay such as telephone calls,
newspapers etc. |

|
| Q |
How much will it cost? |
| A |
Approximate costs can be discussed with the hospital.
The exact price will be confirmed at the time of agreeing to treatment. |
| |
|
| Q |
How do I get referred for treatment? |
| A |
You will need to visit your GP who will refer you
to a consultant. Remember also that most insurance companies require
you to go through your GP. |
| |
|
| Q |
Will my insurance policy cover me for everything? |
| A |
Because insurance policies vary so much, it is very
important that you check with your insurance company what you are
covered for before undergoing any treatment. |

automatically sent out before admission. |

|
| Q |
Why do I have to fast before my operation? |
| A |
You need to fast before a general anaesthetic to
prevent you from being sick. Detailed instructions will be given
to you prior to admission. |
| |
|
| Q |
How soon can I have an operation? |
| A |
Usually quite quickly – please check with your
consultant. |
