The Alexian Brothers Care centre offers Nursing, Residential, Respite and Day-care.
Accommodation
The Home has 62 bedrooms, of which 16 are in the residential home and 46 in the nursing home. Many of the bedrooms have ensuite facilities, and those which do not, have washbasins. All the bedrooms have a nurse call system, television and phone points and piped music.
Residents are encouraged to bring with them personal decorative items to enhance the individuality of their room.
Staffing
Registered nurses are on duty 24 hours a day and all the care staff are trained to meet the specialised needs of residents. Many care staff are complementing their experience in the care sector with formal NVQ qualifications. The Hospital Management Trust places a strong emphasis on training and development and actively encourages and enables all staff to undertake further training.
Prior to admission, the Matron or Deputy Matron visits all prospective residents in their own home. This creates an opportunity to meet and discuss any possible fears or anxieties. It also affords the chance to establish a sound relationship.
Reception is covered between the hours of 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm at weekend. A Financial Administrator is also available during office hours to answer any administrative or financial queries.
Hairdressing
There is a hairdressing salon in the Home especially designed with the needs of the older person in mind. A hairdresser visits the Home every Thursday and Friday.
Medical & Allied Health Services
All residents’ are registered with a local GP and may wish to keep their existing GP if he/she falls within the Home’s catchment area. Monthly prescriptions are issued by the GP and he/ she is always kept informed of the residents’ condition.
A chiropodist visits the home every fortnight.
Physiotherapy is provided by an independent physiotherapist who visits the home twice weekly.
Minibus
The Home has a 14-seater minibus including space for two wheelchairs. A driver is available to take residents to hospital appointments or on an outing with trained care staff to local places of interest.
The minibus is used to collect and return day-care clients from and to their homes. A member of trained care staff always accompanies residents/clients when travelling in the minibus.
